On Friday, February 13, 2015, the Honorable Katherine B. Forrest held a hearing on class certification in In re Crude Oil Commodity Futures Litig., 11-cv-03600 (S.D.N.Y.). Professor Joseph Mason testified for Plaintiffs and Dr. Ramsey Shehadeh testified for Defendants. The Court reserved decision on class certification. Plaintiffs contend that their evidence showed that Defendants’ conduct manipulated New York Mercantile Exchange WTI crude oil futures contract prices between January 4 and 25, 2008 (inclusive) and again between March 4 and 25, 2008(inclusive). Persons who transacted in WTI futures contracts and options between January 4 and 25, 2008 or between March 4 and 25, 2008 may be eligible to submit proofs of claim seeking to qualify for a payout in the event that the Court certifies this action as a class action and Plaintiffs prevail at trial or obtain settlements.
